Companies are always looking to hire people, from my experience most prefer to hire “in house.” This means they hire already employed individuals from within the company. This can be very beneficial because as an employer you know which employees are good workers and loyal to your company. How can you tell if your employees are ready for leadership positions though? Leadership qualities are learned by experience for the most part, when thinking about the hiring process think about which employees have been with you the longest.
Here are 3 tips that hopefully will help you with finding those future leaders from within your company.
- Productivity – The prospects you are looking at should have a fairly regular productivity. You want a person who is willing to put the time and effort in, in order to achieve the desired results. If your future leaders are not productive the chances of your company being productive decreases.
- Selfless personality and putting the company first way of thinking. – If you have employees who are all about the “me” in your company I can almost bet they do not have future leader potential. A leader has to be willing to put the company and its needs first. There may be times that your future leaders work hard and receive no recognition from it, a good leader will be happy knowing the company is successful. You also want to look for those employees who take responsibility for their actions, whether good or bad. Good leaders do not try to push the blame onto others.
- A person who is flexible – things won’t always run the way they should in a business, that is where versatile leaders make the best leaders. Someone who can take a less than productive situation and turn it into something fantastic in the end are a huge asset to any company. Individuals who are quick thinkers as well as creative thinkers will excel in a leadership position in the company. Putting someone like this as a leader can only benefit your company over time.
One thing to keep in mind there are so many different attributes that people have that can make them good future leaders, the key is watching them and their performance within the company. Trust your gut and you won’t go wrong.
