The truth is that we live in a very big and very diverse world. And another truth is that most of us are looking after ways to improve our lives either by having a better job, or enrolling in a certain project, or so on. The fact that our dreams of ascending in our professional lives are very doable is well-known…the problem is that many of us are not entirely sure how to actually put these dreams into practice. There are countless aspects of this issue, but this time the focus is going to be on our training process.

Let’s start with the premises that you are a capable worker, very well aware of your own abilities and you are trying to get a job. You know it would be your dream job and you would be the best person to do it, because you would do great. So you apply for this job. At this point, I will reduce the possible outcomes to three major scenarios. In the best case, you actually take the job and you do great and everybody is happy. A less fortunate scenario is that you still get the job, but you come to realize that it is not exactly what you imagined it to be. You realize that you were not exactly trained for this job and you have difficulties completing it, which is bad both for you and for your employer. The third and probably the most frequent scenario is that you don’t get the job not because you were not qualified for it, but because your employer did not know how well prepared you actually were. And this third scenario I would say is also the most unfortunate, because it is the most frequent, frustrating and demoralizing situation.

Now, how can we avoid scenarios like the last and the second one I mentioned before? This is where the concept of standardized training comes into our discussion. In a large sense, a standard refers to a previously agreed way of doing something. A standard shows the best way found by people with expertise in a certain field of doing a certain activity for the best outcome. Standards are agreed upon, so apart from knowing the most efficient way of taking action, you are also speaking the same language with everyone else using that standard. Try and not see a standard as a set of rules that are a limitation for you, because, in fact, a standard is a way of increasing the quality of work and a way of reducing and even eliminating errors made by misunderstandings. And standardized training refers exactly to the same thing, regardless the field or the domain.

To find the best job or opportunity for you out there, first of all you have to be very clear with what you are looking for and very specific with what you have to offer. And exactly the same thing is what any employer is looking for – it is what your future employer is looking for. By standardizing your training process, you can afterwards display a certain set of skills that your employer will be able to better evaluate and appreciate. Your chances of getting hired are going to be higher simply because you and your employer will speak using the same terms. You can be very specific about what you have to offer by pointing to your skills acquired through a standardized training process and your employer will have a very clear image of your actual abilities based on the same standards.

There are many programs out there that help people do exactly this. And if you can understand the benefits of standardizing you training, it means you can also understand how society works towards its continuous improvement and development. There is not only the advantage of having your skills better evaluated by your future employer, but a standardized training process offers multiple other benefits such as an improved productivity, more stability, increased safety and even improved cost management. Going through a standardized training process would make you a more valuable employee for any company and you can see how this would be a real boost for your career, both from your point of view and even from an employer’s point of view.
