IT System Administrator
The emloyer is looking for an experienced System Administrator to join the IT Team in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This position is responsible for executing and managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the IT Management functions of an established and growing organization, with main responsibilities for maintaining all equipment and IT services for an Edmonton office of the size of 50-100 computer users. Possible additional responsibilities include periodic support of external global customer systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive and well-rounded administration experience in supporting networks, servers, desktops, virtualization, and telephone systems.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Director, the senior IT Administrator position is responsible for:
- Ensuring the stable operation, availability, reliability, and security of Willowglen’s IT Infrastructure
- Supporting corporate policies, procedures and best practices pertinent to supporting the company’s IT Infrastructure
- Applying software patches as required to maintain up-to-date operating system environments.
- Ensuring IT Infrastructure security policies, practices and procedures are strictly adhered to.
- Participating in capacity planning and performance monitoring and tuning.
- Implementing and supporting disaster recovery plans for operating systems, databases, servers, and software applications.
- Setup and support of desktop workstations and Unix/Linux servers
- Setup and support of network devices – routers, switches, firewalls
- Providing ongoing support for LDAP services on all Linux/Unix servers.
- Administration of support software systems including Jira, Confluence, Mantis, etc.
- Performing system backups/recoveries.
- Documenting IT administration tasks for the IT Administrator Handbook
- Administration of the telephony system including voicemail
- Technical Support of remote sales staff
- Providing technical guidance for other staff and customers.
- Python, PERL, KSH scripting for automating system tasks.
- Monitoring overall server status and performing appropriate remediation activities as required.
Qualifications:
- College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an Enterprise networking environment.
- Solid understanding of Networking – including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, LANs, WANs, VLANs
- Extensive experience with Solaris and Linux administration.
- Experience with virtualization administration – Vmware – ESX Vsphere and Oracle VirtualBox
- Experience with telephony systems and voicemail
- Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
