How many times have you heard someone you know complain that they have to go to work? It isn’t very often you hear people being excited to go to work — I guess that is why they call it work in the first place. There are some things you, as a business owner or company leader can do to help establish an inviting workplace for your employees, and make them want to come to work each day.
- Offer training and educational opportunities. When your employees know they can gain valuable information from your company they are going to be more confident in their abilities. By offering training or educational opportunities you are giving your employees a wider knowledge base in which they can use to be more productive. By doing this step you will show your employees that you care about their performance enough to offer them the opportunity to improve.
- Keep a clean and clutter free work area. I can’t tell you how many times I walk into an office building and find all sorts of random things lying around out of place. If you provide a clean, clutter free, and comfortable work area for your employees they will perform better and the “first impression” of your company with customers will be much better.
- Environment & atmosphere. When possible, bring the comforts of home to your company — so to speak. If you give your employees a comfortable place to work they are more willing to do their work, which will lead to more production. Give the employees a comfortable lunch room complete with a microwave, healthy snacks and coffee maker. If your employees feel comfortable when they come into work they will be happier to come in on a daily basis.
- Invite your employees to offer their opinions. No one knows the daily ins and outs of a company like its base level employees. There employees are on the front lines and I am sure if you asked them they would have opinions on how to help the company be more productive. Offer an employee suggestion box or something of the sort, so that your employees can offer suggestions anonymously.
The bottom line is to think what would make a workplace inviting for you and then broaden that view to the entire work place to ensure your workplace is inviting to all the employees. We as humans and employees all have similarities when it comes to what we think makes the work place inviting. So, go through your workplace and think about what could be changed to make it a more inviting place to you.
